Born Again American: A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing

I received a link to this very well produced video site containing links to easily sign on and declare your self also a “Born Again American.” The tune and tempo of the country-oriented music is very catchy and the words sound Patriotic, almost too Patriotic.

Born Again most commonly refers to a Christian term for spiritual rebirth and salvation, an acceptance and embracement of Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible. Honest hearted Americans have embraced just that for many a decade now and the name envisions just such an acceptance.

Even part of the lyrics for this catchy tune seem to indicate the same,

I’m a Born Again American, conceived in Liberty
My Bible and the Bill of Rights, my creed’s equality
I’m a Born Again American, my country ‘tis of me
And everyone who shares the dream from sea to shining sea

However, searching into BAA we find the deception unfolding.
Born Again American is committed to the rebirth and re-expression of citizenship through informed and thoughtful activism. It is an initiative of Declare Yourself, a national non-partisan, non-profit (501(c)3) organization dedicated to increasing young voter participation and civic involvement. Declare Yourself’s on-line voter registration tool has been used by almost four million people since 2004. Declare Yourself grew out of the 2003’s Declaration of Independence Road Trip that toured an original 1776 copy of the Declaration to schools, town halls, and other locations all over the country.”

A “National non-partisan organization?” Don’t believe it.

BAA was created by Norman Lear, who gave us Maude, All in the Family and the Jefferson’s, among other 1970’s comedies that marginalized and ridiculed traditional conservative Americans and who also created The People For The American Way, a group he created as an advocacy group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people.

In his March 2008 speech announcing BAA at the Take Back America Conference, Lear stated his real intent of promoting Liberalism and Progressiveness. This “non-partisan” says in part,
It’s been seven years since the killer combo I referred to last night, THE NEO-CONS, THEO-CONS AND BIG BUSINESS, succeeded in getting us to vote in an administration that could not be more contemptuous of these principles. As my friend Marty Kaplan has written, this may be the most brazenly lawless administration in history. No other president has found such joy in spitting on our system of checks and balances, defying the will of the Congress through presidential signing statements, torturing prisoners as well as evidence, refusing to let Executive Branch employees testify, and forbidding their Justice Department from enforcing contempt citations.”

Looking at the page for Born Again American you immediately see a photo of an Obama rally prominently displaying his trademark “change” sign he used effectively in winning the recent coup d’etat and ascending to the highest office in the land.

In reality, Born Again American is nothing more than another anti-Bush, anti-conservative and pro-Obama Progressive front. It is a strongly partisan group leaning well to the left politically.

Bear in mind as they are singing about “My Bible and the Bill of Rights,” these are the same people that continue to fight long and hard to prohibit a simple generic prayer in schools and fight to have “In God We Trust” removed from our currency, the pledge of allegiance and most everywhere God is displayed in public in their misguided march of Separation of Church and State.

Lear speaks of a “civil religion,” what I perceive as a worship of the state, the government, as he says, “Our civil religion … belongs to everyone, including the non-religious and those still searching.” He further indicates this by saying in regards to the left’s avoiding traditional religion, “When we weren’t consigning spiritual matters to Oprah or the far corners of the blogosphere, we were avoiding the topic by pigeonholing it as a matter of church/state separation.”

Some weeks ago it was indicated in an earlier post, When Did America Stop Listening how these front groups disguise themselves with patriotic sounding names, but that the intent was anything except the furthering of American liberty and freedom. The videos there are by a man who walked amongst the communists within America for a decade to report on their activity, exposing their desire of overthrowing America as we all used to know her and love her.

2009 and the effort has intensified in spite of the failure of socialistic governance everywhere it has been tried.

The country theme disguises this liberal intent and undoubtedly will suck in many an honest hearted person who failed to realize that they have signed onto yet another communist front that intends to gradually strip us of the very freedoms they sing of preserving, until it is too late.

This bastardization of Patriotism, Christianity, and Americanism has one intent only, to promote the Socialist ideology that has failed repeatedly and is now being abandoned by those nations that fell for it years ago.

It is hardly “non-partisan” and is wholly leftist, definitely a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I was sitting here last night, reading some blogs and thinking about what kind of wondrous, miraculous post I could share with you, and "wolf in sheep's clothing" kept crossing my mind.... (my thoughts were about Barry, but this is aptly fitting, too).

I guess it's true that great minds think alike! :)

Allee, I can't say I have all the "great of a mind," just an old Vet who sees what I fought gradually taking control of my beloved country.

As I understand it, this movement, including the video, were prepared just in time for the elections and coronation of B HO.

Communism uses our favorite phrases and individual words to mask its true intent, often embracing the use of "Democracy" in words only.

In deed, they eventually enslave those who fall prey to their glib words.

The road you pave in dividing the world up into yours versus theirs is not the path to Christ. The path to Christ is understanding not hate.

LewWaters said...

Well, that is your thought.

Seems I recall Christ saying "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Matthew 10:34

Lew, since you have never physically met Christ, I would suggest your post should be rephrased.

Whether the Bible is literal or not it is still up to the individual to understand its meaning.

The Bible contains so many proverbs that it is easy to twist its meaning around to support any hidden agenda.
Even for ones which want to split the world into ours versus theirs.

LewWaters said...

First of all, I am not a proponent of "liberal christianity." Second, this movement is a cleverly hidden agenda using both the Bible and Patriotism to further empower those who would actually do away with our liberties by Socialism.

I think Jesus's Sermon on the Mount stands for itself.

Watch the video again and point out to me where the love and devotion to God is, compared to the State.

Lew, you claim to live in the heart of liberal land. I live in the heart of conservative land. I am an economic conservative and socially open minded, call this liberal if you wish. I'll make a deal with you, I will go talk to my neighbors if you talk to yours. All this hate needs to stop.

Liberal Mindset

* Postiive stereotypes - creative, analytical, open to new ideas, doubtful
* Negative stereotypes - indecisive, bleeding heart, carefree, risk taker

Conservative Mindset

* Positive stereotypes - decisive, process oriented, focused, certain
* Negative stereotypes - stern, tunnel visioned, authoritarian

The state of argument in America is not a issue with the liberal or conservative mindset. The problem is with people accepting sound-bite solutions to complex problems and ignoring the collateral damage of their beliefs.

Noone is strictly a liberal thinker or a conservative thinker. Mindsets depends on the understanding and connection to a given argument.

The current state of argument in America is about disclosure. Public servants use their expertise to skew the argument to the advantage of the few. Respectful and open dialog has been replaced with daemonization of the opposition and dishonesty when framing the agenda.

The Do Good Gauge is an idea to develop a forum to cultivate open, honest, and respectful discussion for providing solutions to the common good.

I find it funny that now, after an unprecedented 8 years of hatred and vitriol thrown towards conservatives, President Bush and Republicans in general, that "now is the time to stop all this hate."

Any particular reason why now, all of a sudden?

You see, I do not hate like American Liberals/Socialists/Progressives or whatever label they use to hide their true intent now, have been for years now.

I already talk to my neighbors and express much more tolerance to their views than they do mine. For simply placing campaign signs in my yard for Republican candidates, they have stolen the signs, defaced the replacement signs, spit on my truck at red lights after reading a Bush bumper sticker and Viet Nam Veteran sticker on it, had paint balls shot at my house, had two American Flags ripped off the front of my home and one "liberal Democrat" neighbor even felt the need to stop and gloat after the last election.

After the '04 election that went the Republican way, I took down my campaign signs and went about my own business in this neighborhood.

You see, I understand what "tolerance" is, but it seems those that preach "tolerance" have no idea what it is.

Even to the winner of the last presidential election, who spoke of "bi-partisanship" and "working together" informed Republicans who proposed compromises to him, "I won!"

It isn't "hate" coming from me or even most Republicans, but opposite thinking. I do not, cannot and will not agree with Socialism, just a few steps below the Communism I have fought most of my adult life.

And still, it doesn't really bother me that others are socialist and may live their lives giving everything they own to the government to take care of them. Their freedom to do so.

But, when they begin forcing me to live as they see fit, deciding for me how I may eat, what I may drive, what I may eat, how much of my own hard earned money I may keep for my own well-being and caring for my family and such, I get a might irked.

I have seen it since my return from Viet Nam as I have been called and looked upon as damaged goods, baby killer, deranged, and the whole host of derogatory terms thrown at us by the "tolerant" left in America that now comprises the Democrat Party.

You see, I have tolerance for them, they have none for me.

I even see this as some members of my own party think it appropriate to ridicule my Southern Heritage.

So, your message of "peace and love" is directed at the wrong person.

And again, this "Born Again" movement this post is about is just another thinly veiled "feel good" movement to entice any who fall for it to betray their values and fall in line with the "new order."

No thanks!

God loves you Lew.

I myself thank your logic is twisted.

Lew, I respect your passion, but arguing generalities such as liberal and conservative is fruitless. It may get people to vote for the political party you so dearly support, but it does not resolve the issues you care about.

Our country is more important than a Pepsi versus Coke debate. Get in touch with the argument. You want your gun, convince me that someone is taking it, then I will support you. Someone forcing your daughter to have an abortion, then I will go to battle for you. Is a family member dying because there is no money for a heart bi-pass, then I will work for a solution.

Lew, you're only on this earth a short time. Is this blog the legacy you want to leave? Do something productive with the time you have left.

Again, I respect your passion. I hope you can channel it a more productive manner.

LewWaters said...

This blog is not my legacy, it is my outlet. My legacy will be seen in my children and grandchildren and my teaching them to live their life in a manner consistent with free thought and aware of easily they could lose that.

Whether you personally support my views or not is really of little importance. If you choose to wait until after a disaster to try to stop it, you will fail.

Issues can be resolved by my supporting certain views. You may not understand this, but sitting back on your butt waiting for resolution to come from above accomplishes nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I am not an atheist and do believe in a Supreme Being, although my belief would probably be foreign to you and while I accept most of the Bible (I say most due to questions on translations), my beliefs are not necessarily in line with mainstream religious thought.

Your efforts are proselytizing are wasted as my spiritual thoughts are well seated and firm.

As for me channeling my passion in a more productive manner, it appears to me that my current manner is productive enough. Why else would you be trying to convince me to cease?

I hope this has not offended you, but I intend to live my life freely and in how I think it should be, in freedom that hopefully will be passed on to my offspring and theirs.

Lew, you opened up your heart and shared your passion with the utmost respect towards me. I could not have expected anything more.

I don't believe our passions come from opposite ends. I'm sure if we delved in we would find that we agree on far more than we disagree.

Thank you for the debate. I will leave you alone now.

God Bless and take care.

LewWaters said...

Isn't this the essence of "tolerance" that is often preached?

Take care and I hope life does you well.

Lew personally I think your anonymous blogger is full of it. You can not be on both sides of an issue. You either stand for something or you don't. It seems to me anonymous is either confused or a liar. I myself thank you for your military service sir. I feel that a big problem with the young generation today is that there are few if any good public role models. Like you mentioned, our legacy will be in how our children and their children turn out. Keep up the good work. I shall forward your blog so that others will be reminded by Red Skelton's inspiring words. Sad isn't it how he foretold that the Pledge of Allegiance would be banned in schools. Who would have ever thought the day would come. There are still some of us who don't take this country for granted and are willing to stand up for it!

LewWaters said...

Thank you, mlm.

I have no idea how the anonymous is, but you are right. You cannot take both sides of an issue.

It's almost eerie looking at what Red said back in 1969 and how things have turned out today. Almost scary.

We do have some good role models for kids today, but no one reports on them. Our lamestream media refuses to publish anything pro-America, it seems, so like you said, the kids are left with no one to look up to worth a damn.

Add to that the public school system which has become more of an institution of indoctrination over education.

Gee, I thought it was just another Jesus-freak, right wing, ultra conservative, repub site.

Sorry, but if you wish to be exposed to regular bouts of sanity, stick around. I'll help you through your kool-aid withdrawal.

Lew, You are awesome my friend. I came across your blog because I was looking for something to shed more light on this "Born Again American" video that so many have been enamored with. It just didn't sit well with me, and after reading your analysis, now know why.

You should have your own program on the networks. Solid thinker, compassionate, tough love kind of person it seems.

Thanks for using this (now bookmarked) blog as your outlet.

Your legacy will be far more reaching than the blog could be.

As far as "anonymous", I believe they are sincere, but sincerely misguided I'm afraid.

The saddest part is that people like "Anonymous" are willing to be open simply because it sounds like the right thing to do. Be open, be tolerant. God and Christs living example of God did not demonstrate tolerance, He demonstrated invitation.

"All may come", "All are welcome", "All are accepted". That is, all are accepted "where they are - warts and all" But he coupled that invitation to His call to be changed, to be molded into His likeness.

That last part is where the liberals have an issue. They want to change God into man's image. Therefore concluding "I'm ok, you're ok" Christ did indeed set up divisions. Stating that those who choose to follow him would be setting them selves up against even mother and father, brother and sister. All are welcome, but it is on God's terms, not ours.

God bless you Lew.
Thanks for speaking the truth, in love.

Dave

Thanks, Dave.

Although I don't consider myself a religious person, I do study the Bible and try my best to live it as I can.

One thing missed by modern "Liberal Christians" in their quest for ever feeling good, is: Matthew 10:34-39 (New International Version)

34" Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
" 'a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her motherinlaw—
36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

I understand what you are saying Lew. Jesus was not religious either.
But He was and is all about relationship, and that is what He offers to each of us.

His word is great and a guiding light to our path, but consider this, Christ was the living word, our glimpse into the heart of God.

A living, vibrant relationship with
Him is better than what any man-made, organized religion can ever provide.

God is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him, not a religious operation. Take Him up on the promise.

Keep seeking!
Dave
