Just What Was All of That Fuss Over Homosexual Marriage Again?

If you call a tail a leg, then how many legs does a cow have? Four, because calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one.

The above riddle, most often credited to Abraham Lincoln, begins a well thought and expressed essay by Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, Florida concerning the potential of the Supreme Court doing away with the Defense of Marriage Act, signed into law by former President B.J. Clinton on September 21, 1996 that prohibits the federal government for legally recognizing homosexual marriage as legitimate.

The essay arrives at a compelling conclusion;

“As an institution marriage precedes both Church and State — while both within their proper spheres can certainly regulate marriage, neither has the authority to create the meaning of marriage. The Supreme Court Justices would do well do remember Lincoln’s aphorism – even if you call a tail a leg, it’ll still be a tail. Calling the mutual sexual gratification of same sex couples ‘marriage’ won’t make it so either.”
As we know, homosexuals have long sought legitimacy for their lifestyle and have been pushing for full marriage rights, relying on the old arguments of labeling those who defend more traditional marriage as “homophobes,” “bigots” and what have you.

The Lazy C strongly favored making homosexual marriage legal in Washington State, publishing numerous pro-articles masquerading as “balanced” that were not even close. Arguments laid out by commenters ran the gamut from “promoting monogamy” (even though homosexuals have argued for many years they were not promiscuous), to “equality” with the truth being closer to “they want it.”

Once passed into law last year, passing a citizen vote statewide (even though Clark County strongly opposed the measure) and being implemented early this year, the Lazy C ran a joyous article, Making history: Clark County gay couples wed at midnight and More than 2,400 gay couples have married in Washington as even some local Churches, apparently ripping a few pages out of their Bibles, jumped on the bandwagon to perform such sham marriages.

Remember the words credited to Abraham Lincoln that calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it so.

After all of the glorification and heavily biased articles promoting homosexual marriage, now we read a front page, headline story in the Lazy C, Gender plays role in walk down the aisle with the remarkable claim, “Same-sex marriage trends suggest that men -- whether straight or gay -- have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the altar.”

My initial though was something along the lines of, since they are both male homosexuals, just who is dragging them ‘kicking and screaming’ down to any altar and does the writers at the Lazy C ever think about what they are writing?

Reading on I then see what is really being said with,
“In the first six months of same-marriage in Washington, just one male couple married in Clark County for every two lesbian couples that tied the knot. That mirrors what’s happened in other states and countries where marriage equality laws exist.”
Oh, okay, I see now, not enough male homosexuals are seeking to enter a sham marriage to suit the Lazy C?

Maybe not quite, although that is how it comes across.

The article clarifies a little more with, “Bottom line: gender matters," said Amy Wharton, sociology professor at Washington State University Vancouver. Gender, rather than sexual orientation, is a better predictor of marriage and family choices, she said. Women are more likely to crave marriage and children; men are more likely to have and act on sexual urges.”

Curious claims of “Women are more likely to crave marriage and children” since women cannot conceive a child without the involvement of a male somewhere along the line and “men are more likely to have and act on sexual urges” since that one of the arguments against legalizing homosexual marriage, it would benefit primarily divorce lawyers sooner or later and that claims of homosexuals not being promiscuous stated over so many years is not even close to accurate, although I am sure there some.

Infidelity is a major reason that many marriages fall apart, but many claimed homosexuals were above all of that in promoting the notion of such sham marriages as homosexuals marrying each other.

Along this line, the article also says, “M.V. Lee Badgett, research director at the Williams Institute, thinks children are the greatest driving force in lesbian marriage rates. Lesbians are more likely than gay men to have or want to have children,” still ignoring that in order to conceive a child, even a lesbian woman much involve a male somewhere along the line, even if only a sperm donor.

Basic biology tells us, neither sex can conceive a child without the other.

The article also focuses heavily on “gender differences” once again admitting that there are only two genders. This after many months’ efforts to convince voters that gender made no difference and it was largely dependent upon someone’s frame of mind.

The state has even gone so far as to make marriage certificates “gender neutral,” showing us again that they see gender playing no role.

Referring back to having children, the article brings up two male homosexual couples, Seth Hutton of Vancouver and Alvin Black of The Dalles, Ore. and Jeff Sgro and Robert Beaubien of Vancouver.

Seth Hutton says, “We both couldn’t imagine a fulfilling life without being parents, and neither of us thought being gay meant you couldn’t have a family. It just takes a little more work, planning and money,” while Jeff Sgro says, “I would have had children 10 years ago. [Robert’s] not sure he wants to have kids at any point.”

Do they think they can just waltz into the local Walmart and buy a child? Again, a woman must be included for the egg to be impregnated and to carry the child to term, then give birth.

Archbishop Wenski, in his essay reminds us,
“The state in historically recognizing the traditional understanding marriage as a union of one man and one woman does so to encourage and support, as social policy, heterosexual marriages because such marriages best provide the optimal conditions for the raising of future generations of its citizens.”

“And all honest social research as well as anecdotal evidence shows children are ‘hard-wired’ to be best raised by a mother and father who are married to each other.”
And yet, in order to satisfy a very small percentage of homosexuals in society, all caution is to be thrown to the wind as once again, natural truths are ignored for yet another social experiment with no regard of what the outcome is likely to be down the road many years from now.

And yet, now we read that some natural truths do make a difference, but a “little more work, planning and money,” will overcome such natural truth.

Little wonder that Pravda, the official Russian news agency says,
“Americans are turning gay and Russian men are looking more like the Klitschko brothers. The US is the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah while Christianity triumphs in Russia. No ACLU in Russia suing Christians to be sure.”
How sad that in today’s America, anything goes except the old fashioned common sense that once propelled us to the richest, strongest, freest and greatest nation on earth.

Misguided Gun Grabbers Still Ignoring Reality

It seems shortly after any horrific shooting, where some crazed gunman goes on a frenzy shooting up another gun free zone, as we saw last year in Aurora, Colorado and the Newtown Elementary shootings, misguided individuals crawl out of the woodwork with their cries of “we need gun control,” “repeal the second amendment” and “pass an assault weapons ban.”

These and many more cries begin within minutes of such horrific events, receive lots of press and TV time and a lot of noise is made in Congress from self-serving politicians demanding a ban on any and everything in sight and without a clue of why there is a second amendment or that gun-free zones provide easy targets for malcontents bent on causing mayhem and death.

Eventually, the noise lessens, misguided gun grabbers crawl back into their holes, useless legislation might be passed and largely ignored and nothing really changes.

We saw this same scenario playing out after the Newtown shooting, but the noise level is increasing again as those misguided individuals are still screaming for a piece of paper with words on it, falsely believing it will protect them from the criminal element.

New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, a long time gun hater except when armed guards are protecting him, is pouring large amounts of his own ill-gotten gains towards efforts to impose more restrictions on legal gun owners. Bloomberg’s $12 Million effort led leftist magazine writer Alec Macgillis to pen a wishful thinking tome, This Is How the NRA Ends A bigger, richer, meaner gun-control movement has arrived.

Macgillis apparently doesn’t realize that it isn’t the people in lock-step with the NRA, but the NRA following the lead of the people in our country.

In Washington State citizen opposition saw several gun grabbing efforts defeated in the legislature early in 2013, including an effort to impose so called “universal background checks” on all private gun transactions, again ignoring that the criminal element ignores all laws as they steal or buy illegal guns on the black market or from other criminals.

But that didn’t stop a small band of misguided individuals who believe they can impose such restrictions through our “citizen initiative” process where the legislature could be forced to impose such restrictions through a petition drive and subsequent vote of the people in the state.

The lazy C, or local pitiful excuse for a newspaper joins in with the false belief of such background checks will keep illegal guns out of the hands of those who should not have one as they editorialized,
“Contrary to what many opponents state, we do not believe taking this step will eradicate the gun violence epidemic that has invaded even the most pastoral corners of our nation. But it would be part of the overall solution. People who should not be allowed to buy guns — criminals and the mentally ill — would find it more difficult to do so.”

The obvious contradiction, “we do not believe taking this step will eradicate the gun violence epidemic” and “People who should not be allowed to buy guns would find it more difficult to do so.”

It also must be remembered that many of these same people are those same ones who virulently object to and oppose all efforts to properly train and license qualified volunteer teachers and school staff or even other armed personnel in schools to thwart off any repeat of what happened in Newtown.

Strong evidence of the futility of the effort from the Lazy C and these misguided ‘gun grabbers’ is found in a recent survey taken of over 15,000 verified Police Officer’s from across the country by PoliceOne.com, a preeminent website for Law Enforcement personnel.

Asked, “What effect do you think the passage of the White House’s currently proposed legislation would have in improving police officer safety,” over 60% answered “none” while nearly 25% answered “negative.”

To “What effect do you think a federal ban on manufacture and sale of some semi-automatic firearms, termed by some as ‘assault weapons,’ would have on reducing violent crime,” 71% said “none” while 20.5% said “negative.”

Getting closer to the futile attempt by misguided gun grabbers, “Do you think that a federal law prohibiting private, non-dealer transfers of firearms between individuals would reduce violent crime” received a whopping 79.7% “no.”

To “Considering the particulars of recent tragedies like Newtown and Aurora, what level of impact do you think a legally-armed citizen could have made,” received the largest answer of “Casualties would likely have been reduced” from 80% of respondents.

In response to “Do you support the concealed carry of firearms by civilians who have not been convicted of a felony and/or not been deemed psychologically/medically incapable,” an overwhelming 91.3% replied “yes.”

PoliceOne summarizes the results as “Quite clearly, the majority of officers polled oppose the theories brought forth by gun-control advocates who claim that proposed restrictions on weapon capabilities and production would reduce crime.”

Yes, the results are just what gun grabbers do not want to see, but that is how well over 15,000 verified Police Officers responded to the survey showing clearly that the majority of Police prefer “more guns in the hands of responsible people, and are skeptical of any greater restrictions placed on gun purchase, ownership, or accessibility.”

I don’t expect gun grabbers to pay any attention to these results, it’s just not in their nature to listen to anything contrary to their narrow-minded view and false, feel-good beliefs that are shown time and again to be erroneous.

All we need to do is look toward Chicago, Illinois and their near total ban on gun ownership saw 7 Dead, 41 Wounded in Wave of Chicago Weekend Violence.

We do not want to see repeats of that in our cities in Washington State or anywhere else.

We will soon see signature gatherers outside of stores or at our doors to push this misguided attempt to impose more restrictions on us, giving criminals more easy victims.

We must not allow them to disarm us at a time we read more and more of reductions in Police coverage in cash strapped communities.

Veterans Ask For Help Preserving One of a Kind Historical Treasure

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: ‘I served in the United States Navy’.” Former President and PT Boat Commander John F. Kennedy

Once affectionately described as “barnacle-encrusted plywood motor boat hardly bigger than a stockbroker’s cabin cruiser,” mention of PT Boats usually triggers memories of former President John F. Kennedy’s PT 109 exploits, the 1945 John Wayne movie “They Were Expendable” and of course, the 1960’s television show McHale’s Navy.

Whatever vision they stir in us, PT Boats served an essential purpose during World War Two. Light weight, small and fast, they would go up against much larger and heavily armed vessels with their torpedoes.

Hundreds were built with many lost in combat, some needing scuttled, given to allied countries and once the war ended, sold off as scrap, many being converted to pleasure craft, leaving but a handful in existence in the world, all but one that has been restored on static display in Naval Museums.

That one, PT 658 is the only restored and operational PT Boat in the world and is moored in Portland, Oregon, right here in our own backyard.

Manufactured by Higgins Industries in New Orleans, PT 658 was completed on July 20, 1945 shortly before the cessation of hostilities, keeping her from being sent into harm’s way. Originally scheduled for transfer to the Soviet Union, our ally during the war, PT 658 ended up being shipped to Bremerton, then stationed at Port Hueneme, California where once reclassified as a ‘Small Boat,’ served as a missile range patrol boat in 1946.

She was reclassified as Floating Equipment in 1948, then transferred to Naval Air Station Point Mugu where the Boat was used for patrolling the Point Mugu missile test range for stray craft into the missile landing area, and for towing targets.

In 1958 she was sold to a private individual who converted the Boat into a pleasure craft and renamed her ‘Porpoise.’ She was purchased from the estate of Mr. Orlando Brown in Oakland, CA in 1993 in bad need of restoration and brought to Portland by a group of Veterans that had formed Save the PT Boat, Inc.

Ten years later and after untold thousands of primarily unpaid volunteer man-hours, PT 658 cruised the Willamette River for about 45 minutes with former PT Boat skippers taking the helm of the restored to original configuration PT Boat, once again under the power of three Packard 1850 HP V-12 engines.

The goal to restore PT658 to her “as-built” condition to be used as a living history display had been met and has been maintained, appearing at numerous community and Veterans events around the Pacific Northwest, supported by generous donations from the public.

In September 2012 PT 658 was placed on the National Historic Register.

Unfortunately, that same year, during a routine full bottom survey required by the U.S. Coast Guard, an alarming amount of dry rot was discovered in much of the above water planking, requiring a little over $220,000 in repairs, the bulk of which, the labor was to be handled by volunteers overseen by shipwrights.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, weeks ago some low-life’s broke broke into a shed and stole over $6,000 worth of the tools volunteers were using to repair her.

Save The PT Boat, Inc. is now asking for help to meet the balance of what it is costing to repair PT 658 and to replace the stolen tools.

I realize times are tough and money is tight, but your donation, no matter how small will be used to preserve a piece of history few ever have a chance to see, a fully operational and restored World War Two Patrol Torpedo Boat as it was originally built.

This request is not political and every dime donated goes to repair this Historical Treasure, not some politician seeking campaign money.

You can make donations directly to the effort at Donation/Contact or through Save PT-658 where I made a donation.

Unlike the small handful of PT Boats restored and on static display back east, PT 658 remains the only operational PT Boat in the world. It is a virtual floating museum from World War Two in the Pacific Northwest.

I hope you will join me in helping to preserve this Historic Treasure.
