I just remembered Remembrance Day, Nov 11, is called Veteran's Day in the USA. You guys also have your Memorial Day in May to honour the fallen soldiers and it has been around before Remembrance Day obviously. So is the poppy, which is worn on the two weeks leading up to Rememberance Day up here used in the USA on both your days? I have read conflicting information on that.
The red poppy used to be worn only on Memorial Day, but it seems that some have decided to wear it on Veterans Day as well.
I'm not sure when that came about, but it is more common now than a few years ago.
Incidentally, Veterans Day was Armistice Day down here until the early 1950's when it was changed to Veterans Day to show respect for living Veterans.
Thanks for the info. BTW, I also read that it was actually an American Legion idea inspired by the Canadian poem "In Flander's Fields" that came up in 1920 or there abouts of using the poppy as a symbol. It caught on in the countries of the former British Empire in a big way.
