Fur Flying In Portland, Oregon … Again

A Domestic Terrorist group, patterned after the Animal Liberation Front, successfully closed down a long established Furrier in Portland in 2006. Emboldened by the success of their tactics, they are now targeting another taxpaying business in Portland.

Just days ago, February 4, 2008, a notice was posted at Portland Independent Media Center, a favorite online gathering place for Portland’s leftist shills. The notice said:

Shut Down Ungar Furs!
February 9th at 10am. Fur store protest! Please some
and support the animals!

Portland made history with the shutting down of
Schumacher furs, but there is still much more work to be done. We must continue
the fight and let others know that we will not tolerate fur stores in our city.

The store is only open from the the hours of 10am to 1pm on Saturdays so
lets all get out there!

Nicholas Ungar Furs
1137 SW Yamhill St
(spelling errors uncorrected)

Schumacher Furs, established and operating in Portland, Oregon since 1895, started coming under fire from the Animal Rights group back in 2005. Protesters picketed the business, blocked the entrance, often jeering at customers, sometimes near nude, with obscenities and threats.

Pleas to the Police Department and to the City of Portland fell on deaf ears, with the Police seeming to side with the Domestic Terrorists at time, ignoring it all at other times.

Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct Cmdr. Dave Benson once sent an email to the City Commission suggesting the business should move. Benson’s email said,
“Actually, one of the solutions is for them to relocate to a boutique type of mall. In that setting the owners will probably be able to lawfully control the protests inside the mall and keep it outside on the sidewalk. The protesters would quickly lose interest. The Schumacher’s won’t like that solution, either, but they may not have much of a choice.”

City Commissioner, Randy Leonard contacted the Furrier saying he believed they were partly to blame for the situation. Leonard’s email to the Schumacher’s said they had
“disregarded police advice to temporarily close their store on Saturdays and have instead argued with the protesters and mocked them with signs posted in their store windows.”

“Neither the police bureau nor my office can assist you if you are not willing to accept our advice on a strategy that helps us help you cause the protesters to lose interest in targeting your business,” Leonard wrote.

Leonard then posted on the city’s web site,
“I have come to the conclusion that the Schumacher’s have chosen this path as a method of generating free advertisement for their business.”

Portland’s Mayor, Tom Potter once suggested the Schumacher’s “sit down and negotiate” with the protesters, something the Schumacher’s felt was unnecessary, as they were entitled to Police Protection from harassment for conducting a legal and legitimate business.

The business received little support, the main exception being local radio host, Victoria Taft on her evening program and blog site. By December 2006, the fourth generation Furrier had had enough and announced closing their doors.

A suit filed in federal court against the City of Portland and three Animal Rights Groups was subsequently dismissed, with the Schumacher family being ordered to pay the legal fees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals; In Defense of Animals and a protester. Said Judge Michael Mosman,
“[the lawsuit] was an extraordinary abuse of the litigation process and threatened free-speech rights.”

Now, these same people have targeted another Furrier, Ungar Furs, in Portland. Said one Protester calling themselves ‘the mink,’
“Bring your signs, bullhorns, costumes, and a desire to SHUT THEM DOWN! Bring down anything and everything that you think could help get the message accross that we will not tolerate such a disgusting business in our town!”

In discussing this newly called for protest with a supporter calling himself 'jonny,' the Bible was injected as evidence of the wearing of furs being against our Christian God’s desires for man and beast. Said 'jonny,'
“God gave animals to mankind for his use (Genesis 1:26-30; 9:1-4). But, this does not mean that humans have the right mistreat animals and the environment (Also in King James).

God has no Delight in Sacrifices. There can be no doubt that God wanted humanity to elevate itself above such barbaric practices, for the Prophet Hosea says: "They love sacrifice, they sacrifice flesh and eat it, but the Lord has no delight in them." (Hosea 8:13) Referring to animal sacrifices, God Himself says through His Prophet Isaiah: "...I will hide my eyes from you: yea, when you make your prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood...put away the evil of your doings from my eyes; cease to do evil." (Isaiah 1:11-16)”

Mention by this writer that in the Bible, God gave Noah all of the animals on earth for meat (with some exceptions), drew the expected rebuke from 'jonny' of,
“You can keep trying to tweak the Bible to Justify it but unless you need to kill the animal to wear its fur so that you don't freeze to death, It is considered a sin. You people really need to think about how your actions affect the world around you. Forgive me for saying this, but you all seem to be relatively uneducated and express an unwillingness to learn. A little sociapathic too, based on your lack of empathy for little creatures. I am not going to walk you through the entire Bible to show all the reasons why causing unnecessary suffering of God's creatures is wrong. I suggest counseling.”

Stone silence has come from 'jonny' since this writer quoted Genesis 3:21
“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”

Last I heard, the Garden of Eden wasn’t well known for its freezing weather.

If the treatment of Schumacher’s is any indication, Ungar’s Furs is in for a rough ride until they close their doors also. Activists anonymously boast of their vandalism and the City of Portland, located within the third largest fur production state in the Union, shoots themselves in the foot.

The City of Portland, Oregon, struggling to out do more notorious Leftist Cities on the Left Coast will most likely offer scant support, if any, to a taxpaying business engaged in a legal business within a city already losing businesses at an alarming rate.

It is little wonder that former President George H. W. Bush once referred to Portland as "Little Beirut" due to the protesters he encountered here.

The ability to protest is one of the great things about this country.

Many animals used to make fur coats are anally electrocuted, by the way.

Tracy, I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

The ability to protest is one of the great things about this country.

No one has a problem with protesting. Historically, it has been men like me who have gone off and fought enemies to protect your right to protest and I would never think of taking that away from you.

However, when the protest becomes harassment, vandalism, threats and impeding another’s right to conduct business or purchase a legal item, it is no longer a "protest" but has become Domestic Terrorism.

Think back to the despicable conduct of many abortion protesters in years past. They exceeded their right and infringed upon another’s. They were duly restricted in their ability to harass those they disagreed with.

I see no reason you and your friends shouldn't accept the same, do you?

Many animals used to make fur coats are anally electrocuted, by the way.

I'd be careful spreading that around Portland. If word got out about some sort of anal stimulation, a significant portion of your population may become turned on ;-)

Seriously, methods used in harvesting the animals "have been approved by veterinary authorities, and ensure that an animal’s death comes quickly without stress or suffering."

Films purported to show the massive abuse of animals are often staged or manipulated to show the absolute worst and sway opinions. When actual cases of animal abuse are discovered within the industry, "the appropriate authorities prosecute the perpetrator of the abuse and the animals are removed."

Fur farming is a business like all others and interested in growing and being profitable. A mistreated animal produces inferior fur, which there is little market for. A well-treated animal, on the other hand, produces a high quality fur and sells for much more.

Which do you think businesses would be interested in?

Like animals?

Oh yes. I love animals. In fact, I have a terrific recipe for slow roasting with garlic, onions, mushrooms, basil and pepper I'll share with you. Makes the meat melt in your mouth.

If I decide to visit Portland and Ungar Furs to purchase something special for my wife, I only hope you are smart enough to not get in my way. You see, Tracy, I have rights as well.

My husband and I visited Nicholas Ungar fur on 3/29/08 and were witness (or victim?) to the "peaceful" protestings. On our way in the protesters were yelling at us and were essentially calling us murderers. When we left, they had several people holding video cameras, filming us leaving, and calling us "Beached Whales" and "Fat F@@@ers". I have no idea what they intend to do with the video they taped, but their behaviour in my opinion was harrassment. Did it hurt me... no. Did it do anything to sway my mind when it comes to buying fur... YEP... I'll be buying a new coat next week, as a show of my support to Nicholas Ungar. Had they not yelled and harrassed us I would have had a much more open mind to listen to their views. Their behaviour closed my mind to anything they might have to say, and I definitely walked away with the feeling that they are nothing but a bunch of domestic terrorists.

They have a right to protest, but not the right to harrass me and yell obsentities at me.

I have been told that most of the protesters are actually paid by the different animal rights organizations to stand there and protest. If this is true, I believe that there should be laws against paid protesters. I've been told that these organizations post ads on college campus for college students to get paid to protest. If this is true these organizations know that the average college student is in desperate need of cash, and are exploiting these students. We should protest this gross abuse of human beings (somewhat tongue in cheek).

Protesters remember the old adage... You can draw more flies with honey than vinegar. I definitely was left with the strong taste of vinegar in my mouth. And by the way... YOU DON'T HAVE MY PERMISSION TO USE VIDEO OF ME IN ANY OF YOUR PROPAGANDA!!!

Selley, the only way to counter these 'protesors' is by doing what you did, stand up to them.

They have a perfect right to live their life as they choose.

They do not have the right to make me live my life as they choose.

Is this seriously how you're going to preface your argument? All it proves is that you're ignorant and a sorry excuse for a human being.

Spoken like a true leftist twit, K.

Obviously, you don't notice that tongue in cheek comments come AFTER a post, not before it, as your choice of word "preface" implies.

Then again, you Bolshevik's only know imposing your will on others and crying your rights are infringed if someone dares live theri life as they desire, not as you do.

I'll be sure to enjoy a big juicy steak for dinner tonight and then curl up in my genuine Fox Fur throw, staying all comfie and warm while I contemplate your words.

Perhaps you should invest in a Grade School Dictionary.

You're a good little Nazi, Shelly.

What a brave, strong woman you must be, sticking it to those horrible, deadful people who want to protect animals from being tortured. How valiant you must have looked, hustling past them in your over-priced, out-dated, status-symbol-wannabe coat of dead animals.

We need more deep souls like you around, babe. In fact, I hope you're reincarnated... as a mink.

And to you, Lew Waters: you write as though everyone who supports the welfare of animals is a leftist. My father is strictly conservative and a vegan animal rights activist. I know many people, in fact, who are FAR from Leftist, yet who know that it is morally wrong to abuse animals.

So when you're cuddling your dead animal as your steak dinner clogs your arteries tonight, just know that there is a 65-year-old vegan man out there who is a more convincing conversative than you and a better person than you. I'll bet he could also kick your ass.

Jenemia, of course you're not all little Nazi's, just the morons that feel they have the right to direct other peoples lives.

If you don't like fur or leather, don't wear it. If you don't like meat, don't eat it. Your perogative, dear.

Mine is I'll eat meat and if I feel like it, wear leather or fur, deal with it.

Since many of you like to inject the Bible into your interference into other people's lives, try reading it, hon.

Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Bottom line, hon, you live your life as you see fit, I will not intefere with your choice. Likewise for me.

In closing, your groups might gain more credibility should you decide to place as much emphasis and protection on human life as you do animals.

As far as "kicking my ass," I'd rethink that threat. You see, I can supply you with .357 reasons to reconsider.

Then again, this 60 year-old Auto Mechanic Viet Nam Veteran just might be in better physical condition that you realize.

Thanks for dropping by and reviving an old thread to show what nutcases ya'll can be.

By The Way, don't you realize the "my father can beat up your father" is a grammar school cry?
