I've been thinking about us, too. About our people living like pigs and good, rich land laying fallow. Or maybe one guy with a million acres and 100,000 farmers starving.
And I've been wondering, if all our folks got together and yelled....
Maybe it's like Casey said. A fella ain't got a soul of his own, just a little piece of a big soul, the one big soul that belongs to everybody. Then.... Then it don't matter. I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be everywhere, wherever you can look. Wherever there's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beating up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready. And when the people are eating the stuff they raise, and living in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.

Ah, the Grapes of Wrath, one the greatest pieces of left wing propaganda ever produced.
Although I enjoy the movies every time I see it, it is decpetive piece of Depression era literature made into a movie.
All through it, owners are manipulating and mistreating the poor farmers and only at hte government run camp do they find peace and solace and fair play, as they form unions.
A really great movie, but so easily misleading.
I never thought about it that way before, but I see what you mean. Regardless, it's still one of my favorites, maybe because I feel I belong to an older time (I certainly don't fit into the modern one, square peg and all that), and I just like the tune, Red River Valley. I can honestly say what grabs me, is just what I pulled out of it:

Eating the stuff THEY raise and living in the houses THEY build - NOT standing in line waiting for food stamps, holding a hand out for Section 8 housing vouchers, breeding just for the sake of having one more body to collect free money for. Ya know?
