Obama attended the annual Alfalfa Club Banquet Saturday evening along with governors and others. The Club and Banquet was established in 1913 to honor Confederate General Robert E. Lee on his birthday.
Obama decided to try his hand at stand up comedy, revealing his lack of taste and showing little clue to history.
In the jokes told, most poking fun at Rahm Emanuel, he took a swipe at the one the Banquet is honoring when he said,
“The club was started partly to celebrate the birth of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. If Lee were here with us tonight, the general would be 202 years old. And very confused.”
The injection of race is just too obvious, Obama having dark skin and Lee having commanded the Confederacy. In essence, if not outright, he called Robert E. Lee a racist, as are others who don’t agree with B HO’s policies.
No doubt General Robert E. Lee is controversial historical figure, revered by some, hated by others. Few are willing to look at the man in the historical context of the times instead of our modern times.
Obviously Obama did not or he wouldn’t have made the wise crack he did above.
Little known facts about General Lee, even though he was a slave owner at some time is that he freed his slaves some 10 years before the Civil War, according to one who stayed at his side throughout the war as a freedman, Rev. William Mack Lee.
For some insight of one who would have known “Marse Robert” better than most, we need to read the words of ‘Ol Rev. Lee. Of the General, Rev. Lee, who was born a slave to the Lee Plantation in 1835 said,
“I was raised by one of the greatest men in the world. There was never one born of a woman greater than Gen. Robert E. Lee, according to my judgment. All of his servants were set free ten years before the war, but all remained on the plantation until after the surrender.”
Regardless of how the General’s ‘Ol Body Servant felt about Robert E. Lee, Obama showed a true lack of class to crack a so called joke about him being such a racist at a banquet held to honor the man on his birthday.
Perhaps who really would have been ‘shocked’ would be the historical figure Obama seems to hold in high esteem, or at least compared himself to throughout the campaign and leading up to the coronation, Abraham Lincoln, Republican president credited with freeing the slaves in America, but documented to desire to keep the races separated and wished to send freed slaves to South and Central America.
This is not to diminish Lincoln; he too was just a man of his times.
But, such a tasteless ‘joke’ by Obama just shows his lack of class along with his cluelessness as to history and those who served before us.
As I understand it, the so-called joke bombed.
Don’t quit your day job, Barack.

This just goes to further prove what I've believed all along - the biggest racist with the most unfounded bitterness is Obama himself.
Robert E. Lee was a great man. Too bad they don't teach that at Harvard and Yale ...
By today's standards he wouldn't be that great. That is the problem in that they teach historical figures in today's terms.
I see that as a great injustice to students and the memory of those they teach about.
If they taught the truth about Abraham Lincoln, he too wouldn't be considered all that great.
