Obama Misses The Boat on Energy and Recovery

Our newly installed Democratic Commissar, Pres__ent Obama, has been very busy making his speeches and pressuring the country to accept policies he calls “recovery.” From massive “stimulus” to proposed “tax increases” he claims will be only on the rich but will inevitably hit and hurt lower incomes worse, the rhetoric he reads from his teleprompter couldn’t be further away from sound policies that will actually pull America out of this recession and back into prosperity.

All this “Green Industry” he lauds and claims will create jobs will just hurt us all even more. While there is nothing wrong with living a life keeping the environment in mind, the massive out of balance demands of eco-nuts will only reduce us more to a third world country than we wish to see.

One area they have been very effective in is the demonization of petroleum, oil that is, Black Gold, Texas Tea.

Seriously, Obama and the Democrats have long opposed Oil Companies efforts at increased domestic production of our own oil supply while crying we need to get off of foreign oil, much of which is obtained from country’s not all that favorable to us. Their hypocrisy on oil is staggering while they laud potential ‘alternative energy sources,’ all of which currently need further improvement or that end up costing more to produce and supply less energy than oil based energy sources do.

Drilling and refining our own oil would also supply much needed jobs across America and would increase the Treasuries receipts, as was pointed out back in November 2008 by this blogger.

Since then, not much has changed, just more rhetoric and false claims that are not pulling us out of the recession nor bringing us true energy independence.

Once again, the American Petroleum Institute has made available to you, Rhetoric versus Reality showing how we can still attain the recovery and energy independence we desperately need in today’s America.

The Obama cartel instead has called for new taxes and fees on the oil and natural gas industry amounting to at least $400 billion. Of course, this includes increased taxes under their “cap & trade” proposal, which even Obama stated during the campaign last year, “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

That is yours and my rates that will “necessarily skyrocket.”

Adding costs and taxes to the oil companies will undoubtedly result in gas prices at the pump “skyrocketing” again too as well as those of us with Mutual Funds invested in the oil companies will see our retirement threatened by those “punitive measures.”

Such “punitive measures” would also mean planned jobs, very good paying jobs drilling, exploring and refining petroleum into all the various products we need or have become used to in our daily lives most likely will not appear and would just evaporate.

As the good people at API say,

The bottom line is that imposing additional taxes on America's oil and natural gas companies will not lower energy costs nor help produce much needed supply. In fact, increased strain on U.S. energy companies will make it more difficult for the United States to compete for energy resources in the global market and threaten jobs here at home.”

You can hear a telephone interview by Jane Van Ryan with Ray Keating, chief economist of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, explaining how these tax increases will hurt not only small businesses, but you and I as well by clicking HERE.

Obama and his Socialistic minions have truly missed the boat on how to restore American economic freedom. Increasing taxes and charging us for more energy use will only plunge us deeper into our economic morass.

These proposals not only affect our economic freedom, our right to privacy and liberty’s granted us by the Founding Fathers comes under threat as we read how in Britain, spy planes are being used to “create color-coded maps which will identify energy offenders,” those deemed to “waste energy.”

If you are thinking, “that’s in Britain and not America,” please recall Obama’s recent town hall speech where he called for adding 40 million “smart meters” to monitor energy consumption and to “tell you when to turn off the lights and when the peak hours are.”

Add to that his call to “tax drivers per mile” and I think you can see a growing intrusion into our privacy and liberty from excessive taxation.

Do you really want some government bureaucrat deciding where your thermostat is set, when you may turn on your lights or use your computer and watch TV? Do you want that same bureaucrat deciding when you may drive your car? That isn’t the freedom our Founders left us and millions of Veterans have paid for by their blood over our history.

That is tyranny!

We must oppose our ever-decreasing freedoms and liberties from this gang now in D.C. We must stop this rush to dictatorial rule by Socialist Democrats and spineless Republicans. We The People are the largest and strongest arm of government, if we use our privileges while we still have them.

One-way is by registering for free at Partnership for America’s Energy Security and utilize their site to send your objections to this looming fiasco to your Senator and Representatives.

We can no longer sit around hoping someone will save our freedoms. We can no longer be complacent and take all of this for granted. Our liberty and freedoms are under threat from inside and we have to take action. Don’t forget, we elect officials to serve us, not dictate to us and control us.

Join in with Tea Party’s or Pork Protests in your area and use Partnership for America’s Energy Security free registration site to tell them, ENOUGH!”

There could be no better investment in America than to invest in America becoming energy independent! We need to utilize everything in out power to reduce our dependence on foreign oil including using our own natural resources. Create cheap clean energy, new badly needed green jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.The high cost of fuel this past year seriously damaged our economy and society. The cost of fuel effects every facet of consumer goods from production to shipping costs. It costs the equivalent of 60 cents per gallon to charge and drive an electric car. If all gasoline cars, trucks, and SUV's instead had plug-in electric drive trains the amount of electricity needed to replace gasoline is about equal to the estimated wind energy potential of the state of North Dakota. We have so much available to us such as wind and solar. Let's spend some of those bail out billions and get busy harnessing this energy. Create cheap clean energy, badly needed new jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What a win-win situation that would be for our nation at large! There is a really good new book out by Jeff Wilson called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence Now.

Win/win only in dreams, my friend.

Most of what you praise is far from perfection. In the meantime, what do we use for energy needs?

Electric cars do not yet produce what you wish, either. They require batteries which the production of causes much pollution at this time.

The article Job Losses From Obama Green Stimulus Foreseen in Spanish Study shows us that for every "Green Job" created, two are lost elsewhere. That is hardly progress.

The high cost of fuel did do damage last year, but would it have if we were using our own oil and refineries instead of importing the bulk of it? I doubt it.

Wind energy has its own drawbacks, including animal rights advocates who show the death and destruction of so many birds and other animals due to it.

Canada's own Green Illusions show much of the fallacy of this "Green Energy."

Your math seems to be lacking in your cost comparison between gas and electric. It just doesn't add up

While alternative sources for energy will eventually become cost effective and give us what you wish, it just isn't available at this time.

In the meantime, we have energy needs that must be met.

As for Jeff Wilson, sorry, I'm not impressed. As I said to you the last time you popped up here, "Most disturbing in your book, greenie, is "As the next President takes office on January 20, 2009, the nation looks to him to come up with a plan that will put an end to the crippling high energy costs. The plan must be thoroughly thought out and based in reality. Yet it must be executed quickly, forcefully, and successfully."

Sounds too much like force it on people before they realize what has been done.

Any "project" that recommends lowering our standard of living and doing without, and that is to be "FORCED" upon the populace, I reject.

We have massive amounts of untapped oil within the U.S. to use while viable alternatives are being developed. Hairbrained schemes are not the answer.

Strange that Wilson seems to ignore the viability of nuclear energy.

Who is Wilson? What are his qualifications? What is his background? Why should we listen to him? Because he wrote a book greenies embrace?

Oil remains the most economical energy source currently available. We should be using our own, not buying from OPEC while we develope viable alternatives."

I have no problem with exploring and developing green technologies, but in the meantime, we need the oil to get us to that point.

Instead, we get nothing but hype and resistance from the top. Force green technology - but stand there and say NO WINDMILLS IN MY BACKYARD and NO SOLAR PANELS IN MY BACKYARD.

In the end, it will need - NEED - to be some combination of fossil fuels, wind, solar, nuclear, and others (like the methane digester operated at Green Meadow farms in Elsie, MI). No one "answer" is the solution - but unless these folks at the top start prioritizing, we will be left with NOTHING.
