Conservative Columnist Robert Novak Passes Away at 78

Conservative columnist and former CNN "Crossfire" host Robert Novak passed away today of cancer, his family has announced. He was 78 years old.

Novak was at the center of the Valerie Plame affair for being the columnist who published her name and later revealed, after gaining permission from the source, to reveal that it was Richard Armitage who mentioned her to him.

He stepped down from his position with CNN some time ago due to his being diagnosed with cancer.

May he rest in peace.

I extend sympathies and condolences to his family and loved ones.

There once was a time in my 20/30's I considered 78 very old and if one dies at that age, well he lived long enough, nothing to complain about.

Now that since I am just 18 years younger than Novak, I have a different view. Naturally.

I know the feeling. I too am 60, turn 61 in just a few weeks.

So much for the "don't trust anybody over 30" adage we heard when young.
